The International Erosion Control Association (IECA) Region One has issued the Call for Presentations for Environmental Connection 2015.
The event is the annual conference and exhibition from IECA, and it is the world’s largest event dedicated to erosion and sediment control. Environmental Connection 2015 will be held 15 – 18 February 2015 in Portland, Oregon.
Abstracts are due by 30 May 2014.
Types of sessions for which proposals may be made include technical papers, case studies, workshops, forum/panel discussions, full and half-day courses, posters, and product practicum.
HOT TOPICS AT ENVIRONMENTAL CONNECTION 2015
IECA’s team has also published a list of “National Hot Topics” to help prospective authors/presenters calibrate their subjects. These topics are not requirements; they are only suggestions. They include:
- Establishing vegetation in nutrient-sensitive watersheds
- Vegetation selection for streambank stabilization or wetland restoration
- Sampling and analysis requirements and procedures
- Natural Soil Enhancement for establishment of vegetative cover
- Transition from vegetation to hardscape for utilities, bridges, and waterways
- RAPPS for Oil & Gas construction activities
- Channel Lining BMP installations-vegetative to hard armor
- Low tech BMP’s for storm water management
- Subsurface investigations for E & SC purposes
- Determining effectiveness of BMPs Using RUSLE2
Furthermore, IECA has shared a list of “Regional Hot Topics.” These are subjects more immediately relevant or specific to current environmental debates in the Northwestern United States.
- LID mandate to municipalities and determining what is “feasible”
- Fish consumption rates and water quality standards causing presumptive approach of NPDES permit benchmarks
- Aerial deposition
- Water quality sediment standards in Oregon
- Construction management on redevelopment and contaminated sites

All proposal submitters will need to select an educational track in which their proposal should be considered. These tracks include:
