Owens Corning’s Senior Geosynthetics Engineer, Andy Durham, has been appointed as the Environmental Focus Group Chairman for the Geosynthetic Materials Association. GMA is a division of the Industrial Fabrics Association International.
Durham represents Owens Corning on GMA’s Executive Council. In his new chairmanship role, Durham will focus on positioning geosynthetics as engineered best practices for waste containment, water management, and environmental compliance in energy and resources (e.g., coal ash management), oil and gas exploration and production, and mining.

THE ENVIRONMENTAL FOCUS GROUP

“Our main goal in the Environmental Focus Group is to reinforce the value of geosynthetics in environmental applications,” says Durham in a statement on his appointment. “Geosynthetics truly are amazing engineered solutions with proven performance for over 50 years, but have evolved through innovation to solve ever-changing environmental issues.”
GMA members will be in Washington, D.C. in May for the group’s semi-annual lobby day. Durham will join the contingency, which schedules meetings with members of Congress to advocate for greater geosynthetics utilization in infrastructure.
Andy Durham started his tenure with Owens Corning in 2016. During his 15+ years in civil engineering consulting, he’s worked considerably with geosynthetics and is a licensed professional engineer in four states.
