The International Conference on Innovative Solutions for Geotechnical Problems 2020 will be held 11 – 12 June 2020 in Istanbul, Turkey—the birthplace of renowned geosynthetics researcher Erol Güler. You can find him these days lecturing at George Mason University in the Washington, D.C. area, but Istanbul of course remains close to his heart and the IGS Turkish Chapter has certainly not forgotten his achievements. When ISGPEG 2020 convenes, it will be to honor Dr. Güler at Bogazici University, the place where he secured his reputation on the international, geosynthetic engineering stage.

This conference aims to gather a broad range of recent innovations in geotechnical engineering, including testing, modeling, monitoring, field applications and risk analysis under the main topics of geotechnical engineering, geosynthetics, geotechnical earthquake engineering, and environmental geotechnics—all of which are topics that Erol Güler has contributed to substantially.

Three keynote speakers have been announced:

  • Richard Bathurst – “Model Developments in MSE Wall Design”
  • Daniele Cazzuffi – 1959 – 2020: More than 60 Years of Successful Applications of Geosynthetics in Dams”
  • R. Kerry Rowe – “Protecting the Environment Using Geosynthetics: A Personal Perspective”
