The International Association of Geosynthetic Installers (IAGI) and the Fabricated Geomembrane Institute (FGI) both have a long history of establishing field-improving protocols, such as certifications and standard. Now, they have created a joint project on geomembrane installation. The result is the release of three guidelines ready for immediate use by the field.
Focused on factory-fabricated geomembranes, the three installation guidelines are segmented by 25-mil lightweight products, 25-mil heavyweight products, and unsupported products of 10 – 60 mil thichkness.
The guidelines are openly available at www.iagi.org, along with other industry resources. Copies of individual documents may also be downloaded in PDF below:
- Installation of Factory-Fabricated Lightweight < 0.64 mm (25 mil) Thickness Fabric-Supported Geomembranes. Concerns ASTM D5199, D751 or D1777. The guideline provides a minimum set of standards for site installation.
- Installation of Factory Fabricated Heavyweight > 0.64 mm (25 mil) Thickness Fabric-Suported Geomembranes. Concerns ASTM D5199, D751 or D1777. The guideline provides a minimum set of standards for site installation.
- Guideline for Installation of Factory Fabricated Compounded 0.25 to 1.52 mm (10 – 60 mil) Thickness Unsupported Geomembranes. The guideline covers geomembranes of chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CPSE); polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and PVC alloys with other polymers; alloys with ethylene interpolymer alloy (EIA); alloys with nitrile or other types of rubber, blends, and alloys with other compatible polymers; and ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM). The guideline provides a minimum set of standards for site installation.
The current versions replace those distributed in 2013 and 2014.
