Each year, Geosynthetica participates in a number of conferences. Participation may include exhibiting, presentations (or paper co-authorship), session coordination and attendance. Also, Geosynthetica serves as a media partner or cooperating organization to many of these events.
Events with which Geosynthetica has a promotional relationship can be found in the "Coooperating Organizations" box found on the home page of Geosynthetica and on many other pages within the site.
SOME FORTHCOMING EVENTS
A breakdown of some forthcoming involvement:
APWA’s Sustainability in Public Works Conference runs from 8-10 June 2010 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Geosynthetica’s Chris Kelsey will be in attendance. This smaller, more specific conference from the American Public Works Association is part of the APWA’s growing involvement in sustainability issues, such as low-impact development, measuring sustainable return on investment (ROI), selling sustainability politically, success stories, best practices, and much more. For a bit of background, read this article from April 2010.
SKZ’s 3rd International Symposium on Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GBR-C 2k10), which will be held 15-16 September 2010 at the Fortress Marienberg in Würzburg, Germany. Presentations include R. Kerry Rowe’s Keynote Lecture on "Role of GCLs in controlling leakage through composite liners," Ian Peggs on "Conflicting sealing and leak drainage requirements for GCL-only liners," Sam Allen and Dhani Narejo on "Point strains in HDPE geomembranes with and without GCL protection layers," and many others.
The 2nd Global Waste Management Symposium (GWMS) will be held 3-6 October 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. The event serves the needs of the landfill community within the solid waste and recycling industry. Both oral and poster presentations are offered after they are accepted during a peer review process through the Technical Committee. GWMS boosts a high international draw. Approximately 25% of the 2008 participants were from outside the United States. Hot topics for the 2010 GWMS include: facility design, climate change, leachate management, waste containment, energy recovery and much more. For background, see this article from the September 2008 event.
The 3rd Geosynthetics Middle East from SKZ will be held in Abu Dhabi 9-10 November 2010. The Germany-based organization SKZ first brought its renowned "Lifetime of Geosynthetics" seminar to Dubai in 2008. Working with BMC Gulf, the event has transitioned into a much-needed geosynthetics event that fills a void in the region’s professional development opportunities. Last year’s event included a special session on HDPE geomembranes with Dr. Ian D. Peggs. More information about the 2010 event will be available shortly.
Waterproof Membranes 2010 is the 4th international industry conference organised by Applied Market Information (AMI). The event will take place at the Maritim Hotel in Cologne, Germany on 30 November-2nd December 2010. Geosynthetica has been involved with this event for the past two years, has attended, and has even presented. The focus is on roofing membranes and geosynthetic barriers, with subject matters exploring UV stabilization, tunnel lining, development of water resources in the Middle East, and much more.
Geo-Frontiers 2011 brings together the North American Geosynthetics Society (NAGS), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Geo-Institute (GI) and the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI). It will be held 13-16 March 2011 in Dallas, Texas. Current tracks include Soil/Rock Mechanics and Modeling; Geotechnical Testing and Site Characterization; Foundations and Ground Improvement; Slopes, Embankments, and Earth Retaining Structures; Geosynthetics; Geoenvironmental Engineering; Geo-Hazards (Earthquakes, Landslides, Erosions, Others); Transportation Materials and Pavements; and Other Geotechnical Related Issues.
