The International Association of Geosynthetic Installers (IAGI) held an awards ceremony in February in conjunction with the Geosynthetics 2015 conference in Portland, Oregon. The biannual gathering include four key awards recognizing different types of achievement in installations and emphasized the core points of quality that the non-profit professional association strives to promote and increase.
Winners, who received their awards from IAGI Managing Director Laurie Honnigford, were:
- Award of Excellence – DDT Liners (Australia) Pty Ltd. The Queensland-based company lined 8 water storage and feed ponds for the Australian Pacific LNG Phase 1 Water Treatment Facilities at Reedy Creek over a 20-month period.
- Extreme Project Award – Geo Proyectos y Diseños Ambientales. Based in Mexico City, its plant Geo Proyectos tackled a difficult wastewater treatment project in Atotonilco De Tula, Hidalgo.
- Innovative Project Award – MidAmerica Liner Co. LLC. The Springfield, Missouri, USA operation tackled three tank basins at a challenging site in Wever, Iowa.
- Small Project Award – Seicsa Proyectos Ambientales SA de CV (SEICSA) of Aguascalientes, Mexico developed a rainwater harvesting system. The company has a long record of water conservation installations.
All entries in the competition are entered under the Innovative, Extreme, or Small Project category with the highest vote getter in the judging process subsequently receiving the Award of Excellence.
“The IAGI Installation Awards recognize those IAGI members who make significant contributions to the field of geosynthetics installation,” said Honnigford in a statement following the ceremony. “So often the installer gets forgotten in the discussion of a project. In reality a project is a set of plans on a piece of paper until the installer gets involved. The installer can make or break a project and we need to recognize those who improve and advance our industry.”
