IAHR Workshop, IndiaThe International Association of Hydro-Engineering and Research (IAHR) will hold a workshop on "Geosynthetics and Modern Materials for Coastal Proction and Related Applications" on 6-7 August 2010 at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM). This event is being organized in conjunction with the 9th International Conference on Hydro-Science and Engineering (ICHE 2010), which will be held 2-5 August.

According to the workshop’s summary, the present use of geosynthetic materials for coastal applications is limited due to both lack of knowledge on system design and on the non-availability of sufficient quality materials. But the importance of these protection measures is growing as sea levels rise due to global climate change.

Appropriately, TenCate and NAUE are major sponsors of the event. Both companies are well-versed in coastal protection applications.

The final call for the workshop is available now (PDF).
