Gourc and Vidal Lead Geosynthetics in Landfill Applications CourseGourc and Vidal Lead Geosynthetics in Landfill Applications CourseThe International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) Brazilian Chapter (IGS Brazil) will hold a special course on “Geosynthetics in Landfill Applications” on September 14. The education will be led by Profs. Jean-Pierre Gourc ( professor emeritus at the Université Joseph Fourier – France) and Delma Vidal (Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica – ITA).
The landfill applications event will be held at the University of São Paulo.
The lectures will be delivered in English will present generic information on landfills, geosynthetics and their functions, lining systems, cover systems, and slope stability.
Admission is free, but pre-registration is required:

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS
Prof. Jean-Pierre Gourc has researched geosynthetics since the early 1980s. He served as a full professor at Grenoble University from 1990 to 2012, with positions in the Department of Mechanics and then at the Geotechnical Department of Polytech Grenoble. During this time, he also served as Director of the Laboratory LIRIGM (Geology and Geomechanics) UPRES 587 (1991 – 2003). He has been an active member of international standardization and professional society bodies and is currently Professor Emeritus at Grenoble University, where he contributes to and oversees research, including with geosynthetics.
Prof. Delma Vidal is a well-known engineering educator and a long-time leader within IGS Brasil and its affiliated events. Prof. Vidal works with trenches and drainage systems, embankments and mechanical stabilization of soils, soil-geogrid interaction, reinforcement applications, isolation of hazardous waste, sediment barriers, and much more. She has steadily contributed to the geosynthetics field’s knowledge since the late 1980s. She is a professor of Geotechnical Engineering (Geotechnics) at the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA).
