Charlotte, NC – HUESKER, a global leader in the manufacture of high-quality geosynthetics, is celebrating two milestone anniversaries in 2011. The Germany-based HUESKER Synthetic, GmbH marks 150 years of progressive materials manufacturing and the Charlotte, North Carolina-based center for the company’s North American operations, HUESKER inc., celebrates its 20th anniversary as a distributor and producer of geosynthetics for construction, civil engineering, mining and other major sectors.
“HUESKER is known for offering unique engineered solutions to Engineers faced with demanding geotechnical projects,” says Steve Lothspeich, President of HUESKER inc. “In addition to innovative solutions HUESKER has earned a reputation for delivering high quality geosynthetics.”
Over the decades, HUESKER has been particularly dedicated to research, development, testing and certification. In combination with in-depth client discussions and an expert team of engineers, HUESKER has helped advance geosynthetic materials, construction techniques and general engineering understanding. In 2010, HUESKER was honored with an IGS Award, the highest honor bestowed upon corporate members of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS), for its innovative geosynthetic products and utilization of polymers in manufacturing.
Materials such as the renowned Fortrac®, Fornit®, and Minegrid® geogrids have been widely successful in soil reinforcement applications, including roads, railways, retaining walls and mining applications. Comtrac® reinforcement fabrics have enabled the raising of the levees in New Orleans following the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Specialty divisions, such as HUESKER Geocomposites LLC, have engineered unique materials for railroads, canals, and other sensitive installations that require multiple functions, such as reinforcement and containment or separation and filtration, in a single, economical, long-term geosynthetic.
“HUESKER is a leader in the manufacture of geosynthetic soil reinforcement products. Our more recent focus has been on development of new products that help protect and sustain the environment,” says Lothspeich. “Working closely with the Engineering community has resulted in the introduction of materials that help preserve our water resources and reduce the environmental impact of new construction.”
HUESKER’s efforts regarding the establishment of a sustainable approach to its business are evident in that the company has allowed its sustainable practices to be evaluated by the University of Duisburg-Essen in accordance with GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) Guidelines. When compared with conventional methods of construction, construction techniques with geosynthetics solutions have frequently proved to be the best performing and most economic alternative. As a leading manufacturer of geosynthetics, HUESKER is aware of its responsibility to preserve the environment and act accordingly.
