DENVER, Colo. – Located throughout the U.S. and in 6 other regions of the world, the Chapters of the International Erosion Control Association (IECA) are instrumental in providing the erosion and sediment control community with education and networking opportunities through regional conferences, workshops, field days, newsletters, websites and other services.
The following IECA Chapters were recognized at Environmental Connection 2012 this past February in Las Vegas, NV, USA through the Partners for Excellence Chapter awards program for providing outstanding service in the areas of member services, Chapter management and education and outreach for the 2011 calendar year. The program offers parallel awards for both Large Chapters, who have more than 200 members, and Small Chapters, who have less than 200 members.
Congratulations to the following Chapters:
The Awards of Distinction are the highest honors awarded to any Chapter. For Large Chapters, the award is named in honor of Rick Granard, past IECA President, Western Chapter member and chair of IECA’s Chapter Development Committee.
In the Small Chapters category, the Australasian Chapter won the Award of Distinction. Not only did the Chapter win this prestigious award, but it also won the Chapter Management Award of Achievement. Sandra Lanz, administrator for the Australasian Chapter said, “We are proud of all of the events we have organized and run throughout the year….All of our events catered to a different need and involved different members who organized and ran each event.”
For the Large Chapters, the Rick Granard Award of Distinction went to the Mountain States Chapter. They also won the Membership Development & Services Award of Achievement. Chapter president Carrie Powers, CPESC, had this to say about her Chapter’s achievements: “Our Chapter leaders and members work hard to provide a forum for the industry to share knowledge. From regulatory requirements, new products, establishment of vegetation and beyond, members are given the opportunity to interact and learn from our industry experts. Receiving our Partners for Excellence Chapter Awards gives credence to the hard work and time our Chapter puts in and the expertise contributed to the industry.”
In the Most Improved Award category, the Malaysia Chapter improved the most for Small Chapters. This Chapter also won the Membership Development & Services category.
In the Large Chapters category, the Pacific Northwest Chapter received the Most Improved Award and won the Education/Outreach Award as well. Alex Zimmerman, CPESC, CISEC, CESCL, president of the Chapter said the awards mean a lot to his Chapter. “With just a few members in leadership roles, our Chapter manages to demonstrate leadership and excellence in our industry that is recognized by our peers. In bringing home four crystal water drop awards, the tireless work of our members is recognized. In many ways, our region is looked to as a resource for other communities. While we develop many Best Management Practices and test their performance, we also recognize the limitations of all practices and continue to strive for the best application and installation of the best practices.”
The Great Lakes Chapter received an Honorable Mention in the Most Improved category for Large Chapters.
The Chapter Management Award of Achievement in the Large Chapters Division went to the Western Chapter.
The Education & Outreach Award of Achievement in the Small Chapters Division went to the Great Rivers Chapter.
