The International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) and its 40+ chapters organize and support numerous conferences around the world, including quadrennial regional conferences and the quadrennial International Conference on Geosynthetics (ICG). Last year saw only one of the three expected regional IGS conferences (GeoAmericas 2020) able to be held, due to Covid’s disruption. That event was held virtually.

This year, engineers, regulators, and other geotechnical stakeholders have the unique opportunity to take part in two regional IGS conferences. Also, there are two major points on the 2022 calendar with opportunities to get involved with now.

Here’s what is coming up in geosynthetics events from the IGS.

IGS CONFERENCES 2021 & 2022

EuroGeo 7
19 – 22 September 2021
Warsaw, Poland

The 7th European Regional Conference on Geosynthetics had to be delayed a year, but that hasn’t tamped down anticipation for the event’s content or the strong commitments from speakers and sponsors. Learn more.

GeoAsia 7
22 – 26
November 2021
Taipei, Taiwan

As with EuroGeo, the 7th Asian Regional Conference on Geosynthetics sat out 2020’s pandemic. Organizers reset with a much further date on the calendar. The conference calendar might feel a little crowded in 2021, but this is not one to miss. And: You can still submit an abstract. ABSTRACTS DEADLINE: 1 February 2021.  Learn more.

GeoAfrica 2022
21 – 24
February 2022
Cairo, Egypt

The 4th African Regional Conference on Geosynthetics will be centered around the theme of “Geosynthetics in Sustainable Infrastructure and Mega-Projects.” This is a great topic, considering the scale of works—particularly in the Middle East and North Africa—impacting global infrastructure. 12th International Conference on Geosynthetics (12 ICG)
18
22 September 2022
Rome, Italy

The 12th International Conference on Geosynthetics will be held at the historic Auditorium Parco della Musica. The ICG is the biggest of the IGS conferences. It was last held in Seoul, South Korea in 2018 with extraordinary international participation. The Call for Abstracts is open! ABSTRACTS DEADLINE EXTENDED: 28 February 2021. The conference theme follows closely on a number of sustainability initiatives within the IGS and the larger geosynthetic and geotechnical engineering communities: “Geosynthetics, Leading the Way to a Resilient Planet.” Learn more.
