Leak Location CQA - SolmaxThe International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) is holding its first-ever photo competition. Members should keep an eye on the deadline date: 1 February 2010.

This initiative comes just ahead of the planned April 2010 launch of the redesigned IGS website and May 2010’s major, quadrennial IGS conference: 9ICG. The 9th International Conference on Geosynthetics will be held 23-27 May 2010 in Guaruja, Brazil (near São Paulo).

In the most recent issue of IGS News, IGS Council Member Elizabeth Peggs writes that the site will “serve the IGS Membership while simultaneously providing excellent exposure of geosynthetics technology to the world.”

She notes that photographs will play a key role in the remodel–the current IGS website is nearly all text. For IGS members, the image-intensive remodel gives photo suppliers an opportunity to display exemplary aspects of their technologies and work. A dedicated gallery is planned.

Winning photographs from the first IGS Photo Contest must demonstrate geosynthetic materials and technology in action. The photos may illustrate any phase of implementation including but not limited to design, construction and completed projects. Additionally, the photos may be used in IGS’s international promotions and outreach, such as conference presentations and booths.

Full credit will be given to the photographers.

An annual contest is planned.
