Demand for textile machinery in India primarily satisfies traditional textile needs, although the demand for ad hoc machinery is also growing, mostly for emerging technical and innovative textiles. Among the sectors showing a high request for investments are filtration and geotextiles. The filtration sector in India is growing at an annual rate of 17–18%. For the geotextile sector, on the other hand, India’s rapid rate of economic development has created a high demand for infrastructure (roads, bridges, canals, etc.).
Italian technology will also play an essential role in emerging sectors as a partner for India’s textile producers. With the aim of presenting to local manufacturers the broad range of machinery specially designed for the production of innovative filtration and geotextiles, ACIMIT (the Association representing Italian Machinery Manufacturers for the Textile Industry) and its Indian partner BCH (Business Co-ordination House) have organized a symposium directed at India’s textile producers to be held on 18 October.
The event will be held in New Delhi, with the participation of some major Italian machinery manufacturers active in the sector: CORINO, ITEMA, PTMT, RAMISCH GUARNERI, ROJ, ROSTONI/ERREBI, SMIT, all of whom will be presenting to India’s business community their latest and most advanced technologies for the production of geotextile and filtration products.
The symposium is part of the “Machines Italia in India” program financed by the Ministry of Economic Development, whose organization has been entrusted to Federmacchine (the Federation of Italian Manufacturers of Capital Goods). This initiative aims to support the globalization activities of the sector’s businesses in one of the world’s fastest growing and most dynamic economic areas.
Market information
India is the world’s second largest textile machinery market, with machinery imports amounting to roughly 1.17 billion euros: a clear indication of the strong level of development in the local textile sector, which has invested a great deal in updating its technology, thanks also to governmental support provided through TUFS.
Italy is a leading player among suppliers of textile technology to India, with a share of imports to the Indian market totalling 10% of all imports. In 2011, Italian machinery exports to India reached a value of 133 million euros (+19% compared to the previous year). However, sales have slowed somewhat over the first semester of 2012, with Italian exports dipping by 24% with respect to the same period last year, weighing in at just 58 million euros. Italian textile technology present on the market in India mainly targets the spinning (42%) and finishing (21%) sector.
Italian textile machinery industry and ACIMIT
ACIMIT represents an industrial sector comprising around 300 companies (employing close to 12,400 people) and producing machinery for an overall value of about 2.7 billion euros, with exports amounting to 80% of total sales. The quality of Italian textile technology is evidenced by the high number of countries in which Italian machinery is sold: around 130 countries worldwide. Creativity, technology, reliability and quality are the characteristics which have made Italy a global leader in the manufacturing of textile machinery. For more information: www.acimit.it.
