Jie Han Annually, Geofabrics Australasia brings a top-tier geosynthetics lecture series to Australia and New Zealand. This year’s series, which will be held on multiple dates in September, will be led by internationally renowned, independent expert Dr. Jie Han. His topic will be “Understanding and Harnessing the Stabilisation Effect of Geogrids in Pavement Designs.”

In announcing the series, which is being co-sponsored by Tensar International, Geofabrics published a brief abstract of the technical lecture. They write:

The stabilisation effect of geogrids in unpaved and paved roads has been measured and assessed with full-scale laboratory and field-trafficking trials over the last 30 years, with a more recent focus on in-situ performance evaluation techniques. Over this time, the benefits of stabilisation have been recognised by various international authorities.

They go on to note that Dr. Han’s lecture will utilize the Giroud-Han Design Method and detail the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Method, how different design approaches are wielded for the types of each geosynthetic, and how research provides a guide and influences the next steps in the field.

Dr. Han, F.ASCE, P.E., is a professor of geotechnical engineering for the University of Kansas, Department of Civil, Environmental & Architectural Engineering. He has published nearly 300 technical papers and has developed an exceptional record of research across multiple geosynthetic materials in the lab and field. He is the author of Principles and Practice of Ground Improvement co-developer of the renowned Giroud-Han Design Method for Unpaved Roads.
