CHICAGO, 17 April 2012 – Leister Technologies AG, the worldwide leader in plastic welding and hot air equipment, announces U.S.-based calibration and repair services for its EXAMO tensiometers, through Leister USA in Chicago.
Yearly recalibration is normally required for all tensile-testing devices in the geosynthetics and civil engineering industries. The new services through Leister USA will enable North American customers to remain compliant with these requirements, while reducing costs and downtime during tensiometer updates.
Basic calibration is offered at a fixed low cost. Turnaround for basic calibration can be completed in as quickly as one business day. Additional service, as needed, can be completed within a few days.
Leister USA’s complete-calibration method is compliant with American Society for Testing and Materials methodology. In contrast, some other shops make shortcuts by calibrating only the load cell.
“When you calibrate the load cell only, without its partner display, the process doesn’t conform to ASTM methods, and measurements could be off by up to ten percent,” said Jerry Zybko, general manager, Leister USA. “In fact, even if you recalibrate both the load cell and display, it’s likely the measurements may need to be recalibrated once assembled with the mechanical items. You’d need to have the rest of the mechanical apparatus present too.”
EXAMO tensiometers are typically used onsite for geosynthetic/civil engineering projects—such as tunneling, water management and mining—for peel-and-shear testing of geomembrane seams.
