When former Florida governor—and potential future gubernatorial candidate—Charlie Crist toured a geosynthetic-lined installation in his state, he didn’t know he was about to meet two of the field’s renowned liner practitioners: Dr. JP Giroud and Dr. Ian D. Peggs, P.E. Both men, while working internationally, are actually based in Florida. Still, it isn’t every day you’d encounter them on the same job site.
Gov. Crist paused, discussed the work, and requested a photograph.
It certainly must have been an interesting conversation, and to judge by the photograph all involved enjoyed it.
For decades, Giroud and Peggs have contributed an enormous number of papers, presentations, and profession-improving dialogues on geomembrane design, specification, construction quality assurance, and forensic analysis. They really do represent a full range of experience on project life cycle, from product and application development through installation and monitoring to post-service life analysis.
And while they’ve operated their own businesses for years (JP GIROUD, INC. and I-CORP INTERNATIONAL, Inc.), they have been close colleagues since their early association at GeoServices/GeoSyntec.
These days, they even work jointly on several projects. They report that they are currently working together on projects in Peru (canal), Brazil (tailings pond), Guam (landfill) and multiple sites in North America.
