The International Geosynthetics Society – Thailand Chapter (IGS-Thailand), the Asian Center for Soil Improvement and Geosynthetics (ACSIG), and the Southeast Asian Geotechnical Society (SEAGS), under the auspices of the International Geosynthetics Society, will jointly organize the International Symposium on Geotechnical and Geosynthetics Engineering: Challenges and Opportunities on Climate Change. The event will be held 7-8 December 2010 at the Miracle Grand Conference Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.

This is the second climate change and geosynthetics conference to be held in Thailand, the last of which was held in December 2009.

(A review of that gathering from IGS-Thailand’s Dennes Bergado was published here.)

The 2010 gathering will bring together academics, practitioners, partners, and stakeholders to discuss emergency and urgent issues related to climate change as well as the innovative mitigation measures in the context of geotechnical and geosynthetics engineering.

Keynote lectures from and invited speakers include Prof. Chungsik Yoo, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Sungkyunkwan University, Korea; Prof. Hemanta Hazarika – Archiectural and Environment System, Akita Prefectural University, Japan; and Prof. K. Rajagopal – Civil Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India.

Other speakers are being lined up.

Those interested in potentially speaking at the symposium can still submit abstracts through 1 September 2010.

In addition to the two-day conference, attendees will also have the opportunity to register for a pre-conference short course on 6 December 2010.

An early-bird registration rate up to 20% off is available through 30 September 2010.

The International Symposium on Geotechnical and Geosynthetics Engineering: Challenges and Opportunities on Climate Change is being co-organized by the Thailand Geotechnical Society (TGS) and Suranaree University of Technology (SUT).
