Geosynthetics have become crucial environmental protection materials. The requirement to use geosynthetic barrier materials, such as geomembranes, has helped make the waste management field the most highly graded sector of infrastructure. Reservoirs, industrial processing sites, the mining industry and others are also routinely utilizing these barrier systems. Still, the number of qualified professionals who can verify the integrity of geosynthetic barrier installations remains low.
Liner integrity survey/assessment (LISA) remains a strong need in the field, and only one place is currently teaching these skills and certifying and auditing the specialists: TRI/Environmental Inc. in Austin, Texas. Through its TRI-CORP Liner Integrity Center (T-CLIC) with engineering firm I-CORP International Inc., electrical resistivity testing of barrier geosynthetics systems is being taught in both a one-day classroom session and one-day field session with hands-on training in test cells.
The next opportunity to learn the LISA approach is 14-18 November 2011 in Austin during TRI’s “CQA Week” events.
CQA WEEK – NOVEMBER – AUSTIN, TEXAS
LISA technologies are used to confirm the quality of geomembrane installations or identify areas in which damage may have occurred to a facility. Construction quality assurance (CQA) firms adept with these technologies are creating new revenue centers for themselves while providing these much-needed services to their clients.
TRI’s CQA Week provides LISA training (classroom and field), two QA/QC short courses with independent expert support, and the opportunity to sit for the Geosynthetic Certification Institute (GCI) Inspector Certification Program (ICP) exam.
The schedule for the 14-18 November 2011 CQA Week agenda is as follows:
- Liner Integrity Surveys/Assessment (LISA)
14-15 November (Monday-Tuesday) - Construction QA/QC for Geosynthetic Installations
16 November (Wednesday) - Construction QA/QC for Compacted Clay Liner & Geosynthetic Clay Liner Installation
17 November (Thursday) - Geosynthetic Institute (GSI) CQA Inspectors Certification Exam
18 November (Friday)
All events will take place at TRI/Environmental’s Austin, Texas campus. Learn more in the registration brochure (PDF).
