(St. Paul, Minn., 19 June 2008) – The PVC Geomembrane Institute (PGI) offered their popular “Constructing with GCLs and PVC Geomembranes,” on 17 June 2008 in Columbus, Ohio. The course was presented by Timothy D. Stark, University of Illinios; Chris Athanassopoulos, PE, CETCO; Stuart Lange, Lange Containment; Bill Shehane, Seaman Corporation; Greg Scales, Demtech Services Inc.; and Jacque Dettman, TRI/Environmental.
Participants gained a broad knowledge of what is required to properly design, specify and construct liner and/or cover systems with geosynthetic clay liners (GCLs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) geomembranes.
The course, which was packed with participants, included discussion of the latest information on GCLs including hydraulic equivalence, specifications, testing, and installation. The PVC geomembrane information included manufacturing, formulation, fabrication, shipping, installation, long-term performance, interface strengths, slope stability, wedge welding, air channel testing of field PVC seams, and updated ASTM testing of PVC geomembranes. The PGI 1104 Specification and the associated ASTM testing was discussed for the use of PVC geomembranes in a variety of environmental applications.

PGI is always looking for new locations or organizations to provide this Short Course for. Course participants are eligible for 0.8 CEUs from the University of Illinois. If you are interested in having PGI present this course in your area, company or organization contact Tim Stark at the PGI office.
PGI and its membership, dedicated to advancing the use of PVC geomembranes, aids engineers in specifying PVC for environmental applications. For additional information about this course, visit www.pvcgeomembrane.com or contact Joshua Hartke, PGI, at +1-217-333-3929.
