Raven Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:RAVN) is the latest geosynthetics company to announce production capacity expansion. Raven’s Engineered Films Division, which manufactures geomembranes along with various other film and sheet materials, is increasing production capacity at its Midland, Texas facility.
The company noted that the move is in response to increased demand for geomembranes, particularly for projects affiliated with shale markets, such as the Permian Basin drilling operations.
These markets are using Raven geomembranes for environmental protection and site optimization with frac pit lining, secondary containment, reserve ponds, and rig pad liners.
The production capacity increase combines strengths of the Sioux Falls, South Dakota manufacturing plant and the Midland, Texas facility. New processes enable 146-inch wide-width raw materials and advanced extrusion/lamination in South Dakota to be further processed at the Midland plant into finished containment systems.
The company reports that the production capacity in Midland has been expanded three-fold. Shifts have been added and production is running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
“By more than doubling Raven’s workforce, this increase has also created additional job openings in Midland,” the company writes.
“We felt swift action was necessary to continue to provide our customers with the quick deliveries and quality service they expect from Raven,” said Anthony Schmidt, Vice President and General Manager of Raven Engineered Films. “This also allowed us to strategically prepare to meet the growing needs of the industry by more than tripling production capacity in our key Midland operation.”
