Shortly after Bangkok, Thailand opened its newest airport in October 2006, rutting and cracking were observed in the taxilanes (though runways remained in good shape). Trapped water in sand beanth the taxiways seems to be the cause. Prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) with a geotextile wrap will now be used to repair the site.
