Waste Control Specialists, LLC, has established a new long-term radioactive waste storage facility in Matagorda County, Texas. The only previous long-term site was in Barnwell, South Carolina, but that facility closed in 2008. The Low Level Radioactive Waste Disposal in Texas benefits from better waste containment understanding and technologies than previous facility attempts. Geomembranes are part of the new facility’s containment system.
