The new electrically conductive geomembrane skin enhances the ability to use spark testing for liner integrity verification.

Conductive geomembrane are greatly improving the ability of geosynthetics installers, facility owners, and regulators to prove the integrity of the construction works. Conductive technologies allow large areas of lining systems to be surveyed efficiently for holes, including down to pinhole punctures.
Solmax notes that the Conductive Prime Finish works with the ASTM D7240 spark testing process.
“Using a conductive pad linked to a portable holiday detector, electrical induction to the Solmax CONDUCTIVE PRIME FINISH LINER is performed to charge the undersurface of the liner,” the company writes. “An operator can then sweep the exposed layer of the liner for leaks using a brass brush or conductive wand. As soon as a leak is detected, an alarm will be heard and a visible spark will be seen, therefore instantly guiding the operator to where a repair or patch must be done.”

SPARK TESTING THE ENTIRE INSTALLED SURFACE

The electrically conductive geomembrane skin incorporates electrically reactive carbon black and high-quality HDPE or LLDPE resins. Alongside the company’s large portfolio of polyethylene geomembrane varieties, it gives designers, installers, and facility owners many options in quality assurance on site.
The skin “allows the installed liner to be spark-tested on the entire installed surface,” the company writes.
In a separate notice about the Conductive Prime Finish’s availability, the company notes that it believes this innovation to be “the future of geomembranes.”
