29 August 2008 – After tremendous success in building a strong infrastructures around the world and offering innovative solutions, the geosynthetic class of materials known as geotextiles are set to make a huge impact in the Indian construction industry. With the long-term performance benefits and cost advantages associated with geotextiles, they promise to bring about the next revolution in India’s building materials.

With a view to the vibrancy that the Indian infrastructure sector is witnessing, and coupled with the increased awareness of the benefits of geotextiles, the Business Co-ordination House (BCH) and India-Tech Foundation (ITF) are organizing the "International Symposium on Geotextiles in India: What, Where & Why." The full-day seminar will be held in conjunction with CONSTRU India 2008 on 17 October 2008 in Mumbai, India.

THE INDIAN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

India possesses one of the six fastest-growing economies in the world. World-class infrastructure is the key to a globally competitive economy and is critical to improved productivity across all sectors.

The Indian construction industry contributes 20% of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) and has been estimated to grow at a consistent rate of 10% per annum.

India offers Asia’s biggest infrastructure investment opportunity. Private sector participation will grow rapidly in the coming years.

SYMPOSIUM HIGHLIGHTS

  • The symposium aims to create awareness about the variety of geotextiles available globally and the advantages they offer over conventional materials in various application areas. These applications include roads (paved and unpaved), highways, airport runways and environmental controls, dams, canals, river training works, landfills, railways, etc.
  • The symposium will target the immediate issues of the industry, such as removing the barriers to market and highlighting the technical know-how for each application area of geotextiles. Industry experts will manage these matters.
  • The symposium’s platform will form a common network by bringing together top manufacturers, construction engineers, contractors, specifiers, consultants and decision makers in the infrastructure industry from India and overseas along with other interested players.
  • SPEAKERS & ATTENDEES

Speakers will include experts from the industry who have experience and expertise in manufacturing, selling, procuring, designing projects using geotextiles and material installation expertise. They will share their knowledge and skills about technology and markets to deliver comprehensive insight about the global and Indian scenario.

Attendees will represent designers, contractors, installers and decision makers of the industry keen on using innovative products for their projects along with manufacturers, traders and R&D personnel whose main areas of interest and function are geotextiles and related industries.
