Tensar International

27 November 2010 – With two of its most senior people, Chris Jenner and Hein Jas, retiring at the end of this year, Tensar International’s commercial director John Kiely unveils the succession plan: “Knowing that Hein and Chris would be retiring we have had plans in place for some time and are pleased to have two Tensar personnel of immense experience and talent to replace them.”

Chris Jenner, who headed the technical design side of Tensar International in a 25 year career, handed over the role of Chief Civil Engineer to Chaido Doulala- Rigby (Yuli) almost 12 months ago. Since then he has been the company’s manager for Risk Management, while ensuring a smooth handover to Yuli.

Hein Jas hands over the role of Director of Application Technology to Ian Fraser from January 2011. Ian also has extensive presence in the UK geotechnical industry, including technical committees, as well as having been MD of Tencate in the UK.

A Chartered Civil Engineer and MICE, Chris joined Tensar (then Netlon) as a Senior Design Engineer in 1985. In 1992, he became manager of the Design and Applications Department, and became Chief Civil Engineer of Tensar International in 2002.

Hein Jas started with the company as Tensar’s Benelux Sales Engineer in 1983. He progressively took charge of the German speaking countries of Europe. At that time he was one of the few people on the continent who knew what a geogrid was. He soon added responsibilities for France, then Italy and Spain and the Eastern European bloc. Finally, Hein developed Tensar’s considerable profile in the Far East, before becoming Director of Application Technology. “I have always enjoyed working with such a professional team as my colleagues at Tensar,” comments Hein. With a completely new challenge being presented every couple of years, there has never been a dull moment. New technologies, new products and a constant 10% or greater growth rate make for an exciting career.”

Additional biographical notes

Chris Jenner has also made considerable additional contributions to the geotechnical engineering industry in the UK and Europe. The roll call includes an IGS Award with others in developing the BS8006 Code of Practice, Technical Editor of the European execution Standard for Reinforced Soil BS EN ISO 14475, and he has been held in sufficient regard by his fellow engineers to have been Chairman of the UK Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society.

While representing Tensar, Hein played an important role in developing the geotechnical industry as a European-wide contributor to efficient and sustainable engineering. The esteem of his industry colleagues meant he was invited to sit on numerous international technical standards committees, in the Netherlands, Germany as well as in France.
