In mid-November 2009, The Geosynthetic Insitute (GSI) – Taiwan held the 4th installment in its series of interntaional geosynthetics conferences in Taiwan. This series has brought expert speakers in from around the world and allowed attendees from across Asia and further to connect with researchers, manufacturers and others in Taiwan’s region.

GSI - Taiwan

This most recent event was certainly a success.

Dr. C. Wayne Hsieh, director of GSI Taiwan, has sent along a couple photographs from the gathering. Speakers included Mr. Chieng-Lang Liu (Deputy Director, Directorate General of Highways, MOTC), Prof. Fumio Tatsuoka (Tokyo University of Science, Japan), Mr. Tony M. Allen (State Geotechnical Engineer, The Washington State Department of Transportation [WSDOT], USA), Mr. Sunn-Jer Hwang (Director, Third Maintenance Office Directorate General of Highways, MOTC), Dr. Dennes T. Bergado (Prof. & Director, Asian Center for Soil Improvement and Geosynthetics (ASCIG), and Dr. Nelson N.S. Chou (President, Sinotech Engineering Consultants, Ltd.).

GSI - Taiwan

The operation of GSI-Taiwan is closely collaborated with the Geosynthetic Laboratory of National Pingtung Univeristy of Science and Technology (NPUST), Taiwan. The NPUST Geosynthetics Laboratory has been recognized by GAI (Geosynthetic Accreditation Institute) and TAF (Taiwan Accreditation Foundation) as an accredited laoboratory for near one hundred test methods.

GSI-Taiwan provides research, technical consulting, certification, education, and training services to the regional geosynthetic society. Currently, GSI-Taiwan consists of arount 20 members. The members include government agencies, consulting firms, designers, geosynthetic manufacturers, distributors, and installers.
