TRI Geosynthetics Services6 August 2010 – TRI Geosynthetics Services has announced that a Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) Training Week will be held 4-6 November 2010 at Monash University and Extension, Melbourne, Australia.

The schedule of events is as follows:

  • Thursday, 4 November 2010 — “CQA of Geosynthetics” (including geomembranes, geotextiles, geocomposites, geogrids, geoappurtenances) — Following this CQA training, a “mini trade show” will be held in the evening in combination with a reception.
  • Friday, 5 November 2010 — “CQA of Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCLs) and Compacted Clay Liners (CCLs)”
  • Saturday, 6 November 2010 — Geosynthetic Certification Institute (GCI) CQA-ICP Certification Exam(s) offered

Your participation as a course participant and/or vendor is invited. About the courses, mini trade show and certification exam:

COURSES, NOVEMBER 4-5

Construction quality control (CQC) and construction quality assurance (CQA) are widely recognized as critically important factors in overall quality management for waste containment facilities and geosynthetic lining applications. The best of designs and regulatory requirements do not necessarily translate to successful and compliant waste containment facilities or containment applications unless the systems are properly constructed.

TRI Geosynthetics ServicesThese two 1-day courses–“CQA of Geosynthetics” and “CQA of GCLs and CCLs”–have been specifically targeted to those persons who have a need for a detailed understanding of proper CQC and CQA procedures for waste containment facilities, lined ponds and cover systems and are preparing for the Geosynthetic Certification Institute’s certification exam. This course is intended to aid those who are preparing CQC/CQA plans, reviewing CQC/CQA plans, performing CQC/CQA observations and tests, and reviewing field CQC/CQA procedures.

Both courses present the materials in two parts, each complementing the other to provide maximum benefit. The first day focuses on installation of geomembranes, geotextiles, geocomposites, geogrids and geoappurtenances. A geomembrane seaming demonstration will be provided to all students with detailed explanation and demonstration of seam peel and shear testing. The second day focuses on the installation of compacted clay and geosynthetic clay liner (GCLs). Special emphasis will be given to establishing rationale and standard operating procedures for field inspections, documentation of test and visual observations and implementation of CQA plans. A broad based appreciation for the manufacturing and installation of waste containment facility materials will be provided.

MINI TRADE SHOW

The trade show and happy hour will be held on the first day of training activities and will bring attendees and vendors together for refreshment, open interaction and discussion. All vendors are welcome, but with limited space vendor participation will be on a first come, first served basis.

Attendees’ and vendors’ expertise may include:

  • Specifying/Certifying Engineers
  • Construction/Quality Assurance Project Managers
  • Installers/Contractors
  • Third Party Inspectors
  • Regulators
  • Manufacturers

GCI CQA CERTIFICATION EXAM, NOVEMBER 6

Each CQA course student will be allowed to sit for the Construction Quality Assurance-Inspectors Certification Program (CQA-ICP) exams immediately following the CQA courses if they meet requirements and have applied to take the test with GCI. The GCI exam itself is part of the GCI CQA technician certification program. Thus, one MUST REGISTER with the Geosynthetic Institute (GSI) and pay their required certification fee in order to take this exam. TRI does NOT collect this fee as it must be paid directly to the Geosynthetic Institute (GSI, phone: +1 610 522 8440 or mvashley@verizon.net). http://www.geosynthetic-institute.org/.
