27 October 2010 – The Technical Textiles & Nonwoven Association is proud to announce the release of its latest learning resource on Geosynthetics: a series of informational geosynthetics lectures posted openly on YouTube. The videos address applications for geosyntehtic use and core product functions.
The engineering and environmental disciplines are constantly changing in response to the emerging needs and expectations of industry, government and the community. As a result, geotextiles and geosynthetics have emerged as accepted solutions to engineering and environmental problems.
The production of this learning resource addresses a knowledge gap within the Civil Engineering university courses. The training resource which features a plethora of powerful images that provide a rich visual tutorial on Civil Engineering Geoenvironmental Engineering applications comprises seven mini-lectures, including:
- Introductory Lecture
- Intermediate Lecture
- Focus on Geotextiles
- Focus on Erosion Control
- Focus on Containment
- Focus on Reinforcement
- Focus on Mining
Dr. Malek Bouazza, Associate Professor and Deputy Head of Civil Engineering at Monash University stated: “Given the importance and application of advanced materials, integrating knowledge about fibres, textiles and geosynthetic applications and processes within Civil Engineering should foster the continued acceptance and development of new products for civil and geotechnical engineering applications. It will also attract more qualified engineers into the fibre and textile industry, which I believe the industry has wanted for some time.”
In response to the changing technology used by undergraduate students, the lectures have been available through multiple channels — including via the Monash University website, a YouTube channel (on the MrGeosynthetic YouTube channel that can be at this link or the address below ) and a DVD. The emergence of on-line learning for students has become accepted by today’s generations.
