Update from Oregon

The highway straightening project between Corvallis and Newport continues to amaze in its degrees of error. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has fined the state Department of Transportation $90,000 for runoff violations. The design-build contractor has estimated a $61 million cost overrun and has requested out of the contract. And state troopers have been called in to monitor erosion control practices.
