One of the biggest geotechnical events in the Americas this year has announced a gracious deadline expansion for the early registration rate. The PanAmerican Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (XV PCSMGE), which will take place 15 – 18 November 2015 in Buenos Aires, has announced a best-rate deadline extension to July 28.
The event is an excellent opportunity for connecting geosynthetics and geotechs, the combination of which was recently on display in Brazil during SEFE 8, the 8th Seminar on Special Foundations Engineering and Geotechnics. At the event, multiple geosynthetics companies exhibited, revealing new software, product advances, and new projects. Geosynthetica’s Bruno Pedroni, editor of Geosynthetica.net.br, wrote multiple stories from the show. (Articles on Geosynthetica.net.br are only in Portuguese.)
XV PCSMGE will be similar to SEFE 8 in its interaction between geotechs and geosynthetics, only the event is larger and more diverse in its engineering specialties.
PCSMGE is not the only event on site in November in Buenos Aires. Following the trend of other major geotechnical events in Latin America, the conference will co-locate with three major events to optimize participant networking and educational benefits:
- 8th South American Conference on Rock Mechanics (CSMR)
- 6th International Symposium of Deformation Characteristics of Soils (IC- BA2015 )
- XXII Argentinian Congress of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (CAMSIG XXII)
It will be especially informative for interaction in mining, environmental engineering, and infrastructure development in the Americas.
Early bird registration rates are available through 30 June 2015.
Geosynthetics and Geotechs
Companies that geosynthetics industry participants will recognize among the XV PCSMGE sponsors include Huesker, Maccaferri, Coripa SA, and Geo-Slope International. The wider geohazards and geotechnical related list includes DYWIDAG, Bauer, Geobrugg, Itasca, Keller, Durham Geo Slope Indicator, etc.
Institutional support includes the Transportation Research Board (TRB), the Argentine Committee on Dams (CADP), Argentina Road Association, and numerous technical universities.
More broadly, the event is supported by the International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM), the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), and the Argentina Society of Geotechnical Engineers (SAIG).
