The historic moat in Delitzsch, Germany had been losing water for decades and threatened to become swampy. Renovation plans included the planting of reeds. To prevent reed roots from growing into the bed and impair the moat, a multi-barrier seal was requested.

The planners chose Bentofix® X from NAUE. This geosynthetic clay liner features a polyethylene coating on one side of the bentonite mat, which enhances root barrier defense, guards against desiccation, and increases the frictional properties of the GCL. Like the standard Bentofix GCLs, the X type consists of sodium bentonite powder core that is encapsulated by two layers of robust geotextiles.

Approximately 14,000 m² of Bentofix® X were installed during the Delitzsch moat renovation.

The project makes for a very pleasant video. Check out more video stories from NAUE at the company’s YouTube channel and learn much more about its work at www.naue.com.
