Wainui's Last Chance

Beach erosion at Wainui in New Zealand has been ongoing and severe for decades. Since 1994 residents have been encouraged to move homes, but a new effort to preserve the dunes is giving geotextile sand walls another chance. Years ago the idea was shelved, as were other engineered solutions. Residents and officials are now willing to make an effort to save the beach.
