When the historic Citadel sought to renovate its alumni parking lot, the project presented two engineering challenges: first, the client wanted a low-maintenance, environmentally
friendly alternative to the existing surface (macadem pavement), which had developed alligator cracking and potholes; second, the client needed to protect a nearby saltwater marsh from pollutants in stormwater runoff. There was not enough time or space to construct a conventional
stormwater detention pond. In this project profile, Greg Northcutt writes about how a Geopave porous pavement system made the project possible.
